What are Children's Centres?

Sure Start Children’s Centres are at the heart of the Government’s commitment to deliver better outcomes for children and families.

Children’s Centres offer the best start in life for every child, providing a place where under 5’s can get involved in a range of both play and early learning activities. Parents, grandparents and carers can benefit from better opportunities with access to child care, family support, health services, outreach services, training and employment advice.

Children's Centres are exciting places for you and your children to visit. There are 3 centres in the east of Exeter under Action For Children delivering activities and services to families.

Your child can make friends and learn as they play, whilst you can receive professional advice on health, family matters and learn about training and job opportunities. You can also meet other parents, carers, grandparents and childminders in a safe and relaxed environment.

They provide:-

  • play and learn activities for you and your child to enjoy together
  • the chance to meet other parents, learn from each other and make new friends
  • family learning courses to develop skills and prepare parents and carers for work
  • child and family health services, advice on healthy eating,  breastfeeding groups and specialist health services for children
  • volunteering opportunities and many more activities and services!
